This climate change focus project includes. 2 public gatherings - river diyas- to express gratitude. (Cannon and Mississippi). Saturday July 4, is the first - Sun Standing - River Diyas, is an event performance offering where participants visit the Cannon River and make sculpture offerings using my prepared materials such as calcium carbonate sculptures of ancient water creatures and endangered mussels. These are lit with candles at dusk and cast onto the river surface. July 4. More info here, there are 20 spaces and ALL ARE INVITED. See informational PDF for grant info.

The Holocene extinction, often called the Sixth Mass Extinction, is an ongoing, human-driven event that began roughly 12,000 years ago. Driven by unsustainable agriculture, deforestation, climate change, and overhunting, this crisis has elevated species extinction rates to tens or hundreds of times higher than the natural background rate. Here are a few images to ponder, I made the one showing some recently extinct creatures. The geology map is linked to the download if you would like one for your desktop :-)
